Practice update

Greetings to our wonderful patients at Park Dental, we hope you are well and keeping strong during these uncertain times.

It has been a while since we last contacted you and wanted to provide you with some important practice updates and information.

Firstly and most importantly, we would like to thank you for your support and kindness throughout the years and especially during this difficult year. Our patients mean the world to us and we are honoured- thank you.

Following the recent Government announcement on Saturday 31st October 2020, we are delighted to inform you that we are still open to cater for your dental needs so please rest assured that we are here to attend all of your dental requirements; urgent or non urgent and all pre-booked appointments still stand. There are no limitations involved in your dental care and rest assured since the first lockdown we have put many measures, protocols and policies in place (detailed below) to ensure and protect your health and safety during these difficult times.

As many of you have already seen, we have made many relevant and important changes to the practice and it’s workings to not only adhere to the Covid-19 health and safety precautions but also for your comfort and pleasure.

To focus on our covid-19 practice protocol I would like to take you through our revised patient journey when visiting us at Park:

When or after arranging a dental appointment, you will be asked to kindly complete a covid-19 triage and screening form along with a complete medical history update, and an oral health assessment. This will either be via e-mail, text message or over the phone, so please keep an eye out for a text or an e-mail. You will be asked to kindly wear a mask (as you already know), bring as little as possible along to the appointment and where possible arrive alone. Please kindly try to avoid arriving early as we have limited spacing and strict social distancing measures in place.

Due to our covid-19 one way system implemented in the practice, this has reduced our number of car parking bays available on the forecourt so please ensure you are prepared to park on the road. Of course where a parking space is available you are more than welcome to use it.

As a health and safety precaution we are not handling any cash therefore unfortunately we are no longer able to continue with our gesture of goodwill by contributing to your car parking payment.

We aim to accept as many contactless card payments as possible and also take payments over the phone to adhere to our ‘no touch’ protocol.

When you arrive at the practice please follow our one way system which is signed on the right hand side of the building and will direct you around the back of the building to the entrance of our brand new professionally fitted marquee. However if you use a wheelchair, please enter through the front door of the building situated on the left hand side; please ring the door bell when you arrive and a member of staff will greet you at the door.

When you arrive in the garden kindly wait in the marquee until a receptionist is available and then check yourself in- in the meantime there is a table and sanitizer available for you to kindly sanitise your hands with. While checking in, reception will try their best to take any payment required up front and book your future appointments in order to adhere to our covid-19 one way system and avoid a build up of traffic at the reception area. This way, when your dental appointment is complete, your dentist can then direct you straight to the exit without the need to return to reception. This of course may not be possible in all cases and your dentist will direct you back to reception.

Investing in our beautiful new marquee with heating and suitable lighting has given us the possibility to practice safe social distancing while you wait for your dentist to call you in for your appointment and trust us… it is super cosy!

During your dental appointment as many of you have already experienced, the clinical staff look slightly different. We have an array of heavy duty professionally tested personal protective equipment (PPE) to keep both you and our team safe, those of which include:  FFP2/3 face masks, high quality visors, disposable/washable gowns, and hair covers to name a few. The dental PPE protocols are high and strict but they are in place to protect everyone’s safety and enable us to see you safely- don’t worry it is still us under all of the extra layers

We have also installed ventilation fans in each of the surgeries, effect of which is similar to hospital settings. These brilliant fans create negative pressure and achieve 15 air exchanges per hour within the rooms; therefore ensuring clean air is brought in after an aerosol generated procedure.

Our investment in this ventilation system has been grand but the efficacy in their role in maintaining a safe environment for our patients is utterly astounding.

During your entire visit we kindly ask you to refrain from touching as many things as possible and also from touching your mouth. This may prove difficult but to help, we will try to keep the entrance and exit doors open where practicable and hold the doors for you when entering and exiting a surgery.

We frequently wipe down the practice and mop the floors, we have installed special elbow operated door handles and our ‘less touch’ protocol now involves us signing your treatment plans and consent forms on behalf of you- this is BDA approved and all our extra measures contribute towards your safe dental journey at Park.

As a practice we are secure and confident in providing a safe environment for our patients and staff.  The implementation of our added safety measures, professionally tested PPE, and efficient covid-19 protocols and risk assessments ensures the highest of protection for our staff and our patients. We are confident with our enhanced covid-19 Standard Operating Procedure, and in continuing to provide you with the high standards of dentistry you are used to and deserve.

We strive for your visit to Park Dental to be pleasant, comfortable and most importantly safe and we have gone above and beyond to ensure we are able to achieve this.

Along with the health and safety measures you may also have noticed that we have carried out an intricate improvement and refurbishment to the building.

As you will see, the reception area has moved to the back, to accommodate our one way system and in its place is a brand new surgery. We also have a new decontamination room but all these new improvements shall be detailed in a forthcoming newsletter.

Dr Asghari has invested a lot of time and energy personally into providing our patients with a professional, comfortable and pleasing visit to Park Dental and we invite and hope you enjoy our enhancements as much as we do.

Re‐opening of Park Dental

11th June 2020
We very much hope that you and your family are in good health.
We are pleased to announce that will re-open Park Dental practice as of Wednesday the
1st July and this will begin under a phased opening structure. We understand that the
government has announced the start of re-opening of dental practices in the UK from
the 8th June 2020. As you may appreciate, this was not possible for about two thirds of
dental practices in the country according to a survey carried out by the BDA (British
Dental Association). The main reason for this is lack of PPE's (Personal Protective
Equipment) in the UK and possibly globally. Our suppliers themselves have been let
down by manufacturers leading to this major shortage. Subsequently, adequate staff
training and fit testing are required which is currently in progress with everyone’s
health and safety considered.
We are very thankful for your understanding during this time and appreciate your
continued support and loyalty to the practice. These have been very difficult times for
all of us and we understand that many of you have been unable to access the dental care
you need. Please kindly call the practice number in July to reschedule any appointments
we have had to postpone and as promised we will endeavor to fulfill your dental
requirements. If you already have appointments booked from July onwards, please
consider these to be valid unless you hear from one of our team members.
Our priority, as always, is your safety and care and we would like to offer you
reassurance that we have re-examined all of our procedures and protocols to ensure we
provide the highest level of safety to you and our team. We have always had very high
levels of infection control in the practice but we have enhanced these measures even
further to meet and go beyond new regulations and guidelines following the Covid-19
pandemic. Such measures include strict social distancing protocols, the investment and
use of heavy duty PPE and installing specialist extractor fans to create negative pressure
to exchange the air out of surgery efficiently during aerosol generating procedures; this
special measure is also used in hospital settings to achieve the same result.
Your dental journey will be enhanced for your safety therefore you will notice a number
of changes when you have your next appointment:
• Before your appointment you will be contacted by one of our team who will ask
you to complete a questionnaire regarding your overall general health. This is to
ensure that you don’t have symptoms of Covid-19 when you come to the
• You will be asked to thoroughly brush your teeth, rehydrate and use the toilet
before arrival to the practice.
• Where possible, you may be asked to wait in your car until your scheduled
appointment time, this is to limit the number of patients in our waiting areas. A
member of staff will either call your mobile phone or come to get you from the
car park when the rooms are ready for you.
• On entering the practice you will be asked to place your belongings in a plastic
box/bag provided and then asked to wash your hands or to use hand sanitiser
gel and then please refrain from touching anything including your mouth. If you
could kindly leave as many belongings in your car as practically possible.
• We will be taking and recording your temperature on arrival using a no-touch
infrared thermometer.
• You may be asked to wear certain personal protective items including face masks
and gloves. We will supply and dispose of these items for you.
• Perspex shield or ‘germ-guards’ will be installed along the reception desk, and
safe social distancing will be observed alongside.
• We ask that you always practice social distancing whilst in public areas and these
areas will be marked-out accordingly.
• If possible, we will request that you do not bring a companion with you, so we
are able to limit number of people within the practice for their safety. If you do
require further assistance, then please ask one our friendly staff members.
• You may see that our waiting rooms will no longer offer magazines, children’s
toys and so forth, since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect.
• You are likely to see your dentist/hygienist and nursing staff wearing additional
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
Please be assured that it is still your old friendly team under these garments
and we apologise for lack of visual expression or our usual extended ‘banter’.
Hopefully this will only be for the short term.
• Before any dental treatment you will be asked by the dentist to gargle and rinse
with a specific antiseptic mouthwash.
• We will be using special equipment to decontaminate the surgery between each
patient to ensure a safe virus-free environment. There will be a longer clean
down and disinfection process taking place between each patient therefore the
length of your appointment and time between patients will be extended and we
thank you for your patience in advance. All communal areas of the practice will
be decontaminated regularly during the day, so apologies for the practice
smelling like a swimming pool.
• As much as possible we will make your journey as contactless as we can. This
means where possible all bookings, treatment plans, consents, payments and
receipts will be carried out via telephone and email transactions. We would also
appreciate if payments are not made in cash.
