TMD stands for temporomandibular joint disorder and refers to a variety of conditions that affect TM joints, jaw muscles and facial nerves that control jaw movement.
TMD is the result of an injured or misaligned TMJ. If your TMJ comes from teeth grinding or clenching, we may recommend that you wear a custom dental appliance, often called a bite plate or a splint; this appliance will keep your upper teeth from grinding against your lower teeth. If your TMD is severe a full mouth rehabilitation of your occlusion could be considered.
